Communicating - tech style.

NYSFDA and funeral directors alike are showing signs of being 'tech savvy'. We are holding a NYSFDA dues chat on Friday, November 30th between 1-3pm. Kelly Deitz, Director of Membership Services will be discussing and answering questions regarding our new dues structure. The chat is being hosted by an online service called Campfire. It has very little impact on the client machine (nothing to install), avoiding any barriers that would discourage anyone from participating.

Also this week, Frank Kerbein, Director of Member Relations, is hosting our second ever WebEx online meeting. Participating in this discussion are local association presidents, discussing ways to improve their communication with each other. WebEx does require a small download but the functionality is much greater, allowing a very rich user experience.  In this particular case, a face to face meeting would have been difficult to arrange.

I know these things might seem 'old news' to some but its a big step in the right direction for our organization and how we operate in the future.

Welcome to the blog!

Several years ago I was asked if I would write some articles about computers and technology for our association newsletter. At the time, very few members seemed interested and it never took off.  Well, much has changed since then and we have decided to give it another try. So like before, I was asked to provide something for December's newsletter and after thinking about it for a while I said to myself, "If I were to write to our members about technology, shouldn't I also be using it?"

So here I am introducing the Funeral Techie Blog. I hope this will serve both as an information resource as well as a catalyst for getting the NYSFDA members to participate in the technology trends that are impacting their industry. Please feel free to leave comments. Your input will be used to guide further posts and topics of discussion.
